Lijiang is a prefecture-level city in northwestern Yunnan Province, China, known for its UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old Town of Lijiang, which blends various historical architectural styles and a complex ancient water supply system. Yulong Snow Mountain is located in Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province, China. It is a mountain range or a small mountain range. Its highest peak is called Shanzidou, with an elevation of 5,596 meters (18,360 feet). Yulong Snow Mountain is part of the larger Hengduan Mountains in the southwest region. The northwest side of the mountain forms one side of Tiger Leaping Gorge, where the Jinsha River (upper Yangtze River) dramatically descends between Yulong Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain. Settlements surrounding Yulong Snow Mountain include Baisha Town to the south, Longpan Township to the west, Daju Township to the northeast, and Yushui Village at the eastern foot of the mountain. The view of the mountain from Lijiang Black Dragon Pool Park is renowned as one of China's most beautiful landscapes. The mountain is part of the Yulong Snow Mountain National Scenic Area and National Geopark, which is an AAAAA-rated scenic area. The park operates a tourist cable car that reaches a viewing platform at an elevation of 4,506 meters (14,783 feet), and there is an even higher viewing platform at 4,680 meters (15,350 feet), which is one of the highest viewing platforms in the world, offering close-up views of the snow-capped peaks. Due to the extremely high altitude, many people experience hypoxia and carry compressed oxygen tanks for assistance. Some people criticize the cable car for accelerating snowmelt and reducing the mountain's water retention.

The Jinsha River is the Chinese name for the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, flowing through Qinghai, Sichuan, and Yunnan provinces in western China. The river passes through Tiger Leaping Gorge. It is sometimes classified as part of the 'Three Rivers' region along with the Lancang River (upper Mekong River) and the Nujiang River (upper Salween River), a portion of which forms the Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas. The Jinsha River is important for hydropower, with some of the world's largest hydroelectric power stations located on it. The river was first recorded as Heishui (Black Water) in the 'Yu Gong' during the Warring States period. In the 'Classic of Mountains and Seas' during the Han Dynasty, it was called Shengshui (Rope Water). During the Three Kingdoms period, it was known as Lushui. Due to early romanization systems, the river has been referred to as Chin-sha Chiang and Kinsha Kiang in English sources over the past three centuries (when it was not simply called the Yangtze River). The most common current name, Jinsha, is the Hanyu Pinyin romanization of the same Chinese characters.

Joseph Rock's Former Residence is located in Yuhu Section, Baisha Town, Lijiang. It was the main residence of Joseph F. Rock, an Austrian-American botanist, explorer, geographer, linguist, ethnologist, and photographer, during his time in Lijiang. Rock lived here for 27 years, using it as a base for extensive botanical surveys and exploration activities. This former residence is an important place to understand Rock's life and his research in the Northwest Yunnan region. Currently, the attraction is temporarily closed. The operating hours are Monday to Sunday 08:00-18:00. Please pay attention to official announcements for reopening.
